BREAKING: Burge Pianist Plays “Visions of Gideon” Instead of “City of Stars”
Is it a video?
IOWA CITY, IA—The Burge Pianist has moved on from “City of Stars” and has now started to play Sufjan Stevens’ song “Visions of Gideon” from the 2017 Best Picture Nominee Call Me by Your Name.
“[Visions of] ‘Gideon’ was one of the first songs I taught myself. That then led me to Sufjan Stevens discography. I’m a big fan,” Preston Butters told us while absolutely ripping it on the chorus. Surprisingly, the piano playing sounds decent. A usually talkative lobby has quieted down. People have stopped to listen to Butters play. Others seem to be unhappy about the music choice.
“My situationship just broke up with me over text. I don’t need to be hearing all that while I’m waiting for my DoorDash,” a disgruntled Burge resident told The Doily Allergen. Through text? That’s fucked.
Anonymous Clinton Street Market employee provided Doily with another statement. “It’s actually quite lovely! I haven’t seen Call Me by Your Name and once I’m done with my shift I want to listen to more of Sufjan Stevens’s stuff.” We all desperately wanted to prevent the c-store employee from doing such, but decided not to interfere for the sake of journalistic integrity.
Butters has moved onto playing more of Stevens’ music for Call Me by Your Name. The performance has seemed to attract passersby, and Butters now has a small audience. We observe that he seems to have gotten brazen in his piano playing.
“Now he’s playing ‘Futile Devices’ and he just messed up the chorus. Oh, I’m about to kill a bitch. In this case, it’s better to die,” The Doily Allergen overheard a Burge front desk worker say to her coworker.
Stevens’ piano repertoire seems to be met with mixed opinions (and emotions) here in the Burge lobby. Who knew an east side campus celebrity could be this polarizing? The Burge Pianist certainly is full of surprises. This is a developing story.
