UIowa To Ban Organic Chemistry Tutor Videos, Promote Use of Tutor Iowa
In a startling move for STEM and non-STEM students alike, President Wilson has issued a statement declaring a total ban on videos from the popular YouTube account “The Organic Chemistry Tutor.”
The Organic Chemistry Tutor posts tutorial videos in areas ranging from chemistry to linear algebra, and often does a better job of explaining challenging concepts than your professor with a thick accent who doesn’t want to be lecturing anyway. Just ask anyone who’s taken any level of calculus here at Iowa: the Organic Chemistry Tutor probably saved their grade.
After all, isn’t attempting to teach yourself an entire unit of chemistry the night before the exam the best way to learn? The professors clearly don’t want you to succeed—especially if they refuse to curve their exams—and many students expect the ban on Organic Chemistry Tutor videos will lead to an exponentially higher fail rate in math and science classes.
President Wilson has instated the ban to force students to rely on Tutor Iowa, a service they tell you about all the time during On Iowa! Week but no one actually uses. They apparently have a website and everything! She hopes that students will “use the resources they pay for” instead of actually understanding any of the material.
Yeah, right. Looks like VPN sales are about to skyrocket in Iowa City! Thanks, President Wilson, for yet another excellent move to promote student success!
