Herky Likes ‘Em Hairy
Hate Week is now upon us, with freshly painted sheets decorating Iowa City. There are several true claims hanging around the city, but we’ve all heard of or seen the controversial sign that reads “ISU Girls Keep It Hairy.” While I’m all for shitting on ISU (because who the fuck would want to be a Cyclone in the Hawkeye State), as a woman, I felt the sign took the hate in ‘hate week’ a little too far.
So far so that even the Pansexual Icon, Herky the Hawk (they/them), took to X to voice their opinions on the sign, saying, “No one likes a hairy girl or person more than me. Who am I to complain about body hair when I’m covered in feathers? Hate on ISU for being a terrible school and god-awful at football, not for having a bush. True Hawkeyes don’t let a little body hair get in the way of a good time.”
It’s true that in their time Herky has had plenty of fun with their furry ‘friends’. Spotted last year in a love triangle between Rusty the Sloth and the previous UIowa mascot, Birch the Bear. The story was reported exclusively here at The Doily Allergen because The Daily Iowan doesn’t want to cover real news.
And while they haven’t been spotted with any other love interests since, Herky has been very vocal on social media this summer about embracing body positivity. Posting a risque photo of them on the beach in a bikini, completely unshaven. Embracing their feathers and all.
I think it's time that we take a page out of Herky’s book and embrace the bush, the body hair, and the feathers of all beings. Because it’s so 2008 of you to care about if people shave down there or not. Let’s just all get freaky and have fun with each other and not worry about what someone does or does not have in their pants.
